Here is a thought

No Comments on Here is a thought

Welcome to my web log on my thoughts and travels. First and foremost this site will be a place for me to write down and share my travel experiences.  Second, it is a place for me to share my thoughts on other topics I may be thinking about – life, politics, philosophy, money, technology, and other hobbies.  Third, it is an opportunity for me to practice writing and expressing my thoughts in words.

As such, while I will try to write posts that are well thought out and interesting, some of these posts may be thought fragments¹.  This isn’t a thesis, a novel, a travel guide, or even an editorial column.  Maybe I will post ideas that pop into my head that I don’t even agree with once I think them through.  Often in my online comments I try to avoid explicitly expressing or advocating a political opinion; I will experiment with changing this.

If you simply want to hear about my travels, use the category links at the top of the page.  In the “Travel Log” I will attempt to write every day about what I did or about something that piqued my interest that day.  Under “Travel” I will post broader updates, pictures, reflections on my experiences, and hopefully some useful advice.  For other topics, I’ll add categories up there as I start posting.

On the side you will find some of my photos and posts from other places on the web, as well as links to some of my favorite blogs that inspire my thoughts and my life.

I suspect the travel log will remain the preeminent content on this site.  After all, even as I take on vacations and extended travel to give myself more time to think, travel experiences and plans then inevitably dominate my thoughts.  Even as one of the goals of keeping a blog is to write down the “here is a thought…” moments, often when traveling it is the here or, perhaps, the there that is the thought.  And, of course, with a powerful imagination in a largely subjective reality, in fact, here is a thought, if here is at all.²

¹ or “meditations”, as the misnomer that is the common title of Marcus Aurelius’s musings goes.

² This little tidbit came from my idea to title the blog “here is a thought”.  Unfortunately, that name and hashtag is, not surprisingly, already used for some unsavory purposes.  So better a title-less blog than no blog.
