South America Day 84: Puno to Copacabana

No Comments on South America Day 84: Puno to Copacabana

I woke up easily at six worrying about the border crossing and making the bus before that. The hostel let me make two more copies of my passport and called me a taxi last minute.

At the bus station the attendant let me right through as the Peru Tours bus which I had a ticket for was standing right there. Unfortunately it turned out that was the direct bus to La Paz. My bus to Copacabana was nowhere to be seen. There were buses going there from other companies and shortly the ladies working there started sorting people onto them. I was one of the last ones left when the lady took my ticket and ran off with it into the bus terminal, leaving me waiting befuddled. She came back to deal with other passengers at least once before coming back with a new ticket for me. Apparently she had traded mine for a ticket for one of the other (cheaper!) buses. As she ushered me onto one bus, an argument started with the other buslady. Apparently it turned out there was room for one more on that bus, but she had already bought my ticket. Just as I was finally boarding the bus, I get a “Wait! USA?” I assured her I had all the required documents, but I have a feeling she regretted winning that argument, now knowing that she would have to usher me around at the border to make sure I made it through in a reasonable amount of time.

Copacabana: Because who says you can’t put a beach resort at 3800m.s.n.m.?
