I had one of my worse ideas today: I went up one of the teleféricos in La Paz and thought I would walk to the top of the other one. It is only a mile and a half along a flat road high above the city proper. However, the neighborhood right above the gondola is questionable. I started walking very vigilantly, but sensed that I really shouldn’t be there. It appeared to only get worse. I passed dwellings built of tarps and shipping palettes. Oddly there were also some bizarrely decorative houses scattered here and there. I was about halfway when I decided that I should turn back as I felt more and more uncomfortable with the route. I got back safely and was very relieved to get back on the gondola.
