Retrospective
For the final day of the trek we only had two hours of hiking which we could have tacked on to the end of the third day. Before we knew it we were at the checkpoint near Cajamarca, the ending point, where we waited a while for the guide. When we got to Cajamarca the van was waiting and we just had time to take a final group photo.
The views from the van back were gorgeous as well. The valley of Huaraz and the surrounding towns spread out before us in a line between the Cordillera Blanca which we descended and the Cordillera Negra forming the horizon.
The Three Day Trek
Two girls on our trek opted for the 3 day version. This meant that they had to leave earlier on the third day in order to add the extra two hours hike and, supposedly, get to Cajamarca before the 4pm bus. We saw them at the campsite when we got there on the third day and they headed right off, giving them just enough time to catch the bus. I later found out that there was no bus. Our guide was wrong about the schedule, the last one was at 2pm. Somehow the two made their way back to Huaraz anyway.
