South America Day 48: Pimentel to Trujillo

No Comments on South America Day 48: Pimentel to Trujillo

The trip to Pimentel, a beach town outside of Chiclayo, was a failure. I got a taxi in the evening. The people at the hotel looked at me funny when I asked, but called one. The bungalow I booked at the beach turned out to be outside of town. No one else was there and the place was disgusting. I noted that I should sometimes act on the instinct to turn the taxi around. After a mostly sleepless night only somewhat ameliorated by Asimov¹, I got out to explore the emptiness. The dogs on the premises wanted to play as I approached the exit. A moment of nervousness and an ineffective “sit” followed by a stern “sienta” calmed them down. I made my way to town. It was just waking up. The beach wasn’t particularly pretty, though more existent than that of Máncora. I didn’t see any sign of surfers or surfing establishments. I got some eggs and coffee at one of the few restaurants open by 9, though it was not advertising any sort of breakfast. The eggs were good though not as great as yesterday’s. The coffee was instant as usual.
