South America Day 47: Sipán

The food in Peru is delicious. Even the eggs this morning were amazing.

I got to the tour this morning a few minutes early and it was good that I did. Once again, the bus went as soon as everyone was present. The tour from Moche Tours went to the tombs at Sipán and the nearby museum, then the ruins at Tucume, and finally to the museum housing the actual remains of Sipán, el Museo Tumbas Reales de Sipán. Most of the other tourists were Peruvian, with a few from Spain. The guide had me follow close behind so she could give me the tour in English before repeating it in Spanish. This made it all the more clear that this was a strictly scripted mediocre tour, but the translations made for another Spanish lesson.

The tour stopped at a restaurant for lunch. They had us order beforehand from a limited menu, which made it feel like lunch was included, even though it was clearly to expensive for that: mine ended up costing S/31.

The remains of the pyramids look like unusual hills rising out of the desert, or perhaps gigantic termite nests.

The Museo Tumbas Reales de Sipán has a strict restriction on photography, to the extent that no phones or bags are allowed in and we had to leave all our stuff in the van. Also not allowed in: English. This part of the tour was entirely in Spanish. It was perhaps better for it, with the guide not having to rush extra to repeat herself.
